Evidence

Hey guys, just taking a short break from studying evidence to post. Not much to say however, although if I must say so, this exam period hasn't been quite as bad as the previous ones. I think I'm learning to handle the stress a little bit better this year (although I hope I can still keep on enough to force me to keep at studying). Although I didn't study as long yesterday as I meant to. I studied for a while, then got dragged off to the Green Leafe, and that was all she wrote for the night, but it was nice seeing as how it wasn't as crowded as it usually is because everyone is out of town for the holiday. You may ask why am I posting such a pointless post? Well mainly for no other reason than to keep this blog somewhat updated. After exams however more humor on the blog will likely ensue. For now at least you'll just have to settle for a funny picture. I think this monkey looks a lot like George Burns

Metal

Ya know..I really love metal...but I'm not such a big fan of all the anger and screaming. If only there were a way to combine the energy and awesome guitar riffs of a metal song with a positive vibe.........full of energy that makes you feel good by listening to it

stuff

I think Thucydides said it best: "the strong do what they will, the weak accept what they must". Interesting how France and Germany don't like the big guy pushing around everyone else....unless they're the one doing the pushing. Thus is the nature of international relations..

mmmmmm

How about a nice Thanksgiving beverage. Doesn't the sound of turkey and gravy flavored soda make your mouth water?

Darwinism

Darwinism at work
" A bullet fired in the air during a Ku Klux Klan initiation ceremony came down and struck a participant in the head, critically injuring him, authorities said. "
CNN Story

wow....these guys aren't doing a very good job if they are trying to say that they're superior.....if they really were the best the human race had to offer we'd all be doomed.

Russians

2 amazing new stories from Russia
One on the advances of Russian science : Apparently the earth is hollow and there is a race of people living underground in the center of the earth.....those Russians are way ahead of their time on this one...

And one on the advances of Russian stupidity and alcoholism: and apparently it's not a good idea to down 3 bottles of vodka at one sitting, oh well, there goes my weekend plans.

p.s. I came across links to these stories from Dave Barry's blog

New

Ok, you probably notice some incongruence and broken links between the pages, this is due to having to move the blog over to this blogspot site b/c of the ridiculous new WM FTP system...Please bear with me for the coming days, it probably won't be totally fixed until sometime over Christmas break.

grr

Gr......the William and Mary FTP server just switched over to a new system, so blogger no longer publishes correctly to the server, which means I have to host it on Blogspot......hence the banner ads....how annoying is that?

none

arghhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Wheaton

Man! If only I went to Wheaton maybe I would have been considered a good dancer.

nothing

Posting is likley to be sparse over the next few weeks because of exams, etc.... (either that or they may start reflecting my insanity due to stress) but everyone feel free to leave an encouraging message on the tagboard.

tonight

Well, I did a bunch of outlining and whatnot and was getting a little braindead, you know...just going through the motions. Well, on my way inside tonight, I looked up at the stars and decided to just keep looking. It got me to thinking, looking up at the fall sky, covered in stars, how can anyone see that sky and not realize that there's a God. I so often get distracted by the things around me, but it's the simple things, like nights like these, that help me to get refocused. I, and my problems, are of little consequence in the long run and the beauty of the night sky makes me feel so insignificant in regards to creation. I hope I can keep things in perspective better and realize what's really important in life. What I am doing in the here and now is important, but it is not the most important thing in the world.

Toilet

Happy world toilet day everyone! I hope everyone has fun at their world toilet day parties!

Jesus Christ

It's amazing! it's sacriligous! it's Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter

"The Second Coming is upon us, Jesus has returned to earth, but before he can get down to the serious business of the living and the dead, he has to contend with an army of vampires who can walk in the daylight. Combine kung-fu action and biblical prophecy.......did we mention it's a musical?"

man, they'll make anything these days...

thousand foot krutch

Thousand Foot Krutch: phenomeon- everyone buy this CD now! that's an order, it rocks!

removal

Well, Alabama Chief Justice Moore has been removed from office for defiance of the state court order to remove the ten commandments. I reserve judgement.....on one hand I can't condone a judge taking the law into his own hands, on the other hand a few of the things he said on TV made sense. I do admire his taking such a firm stand, even if I don't agree with it totally

yea

http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/11/10/scotus.detainees/index.html well, the supreme court granted cert. in reviewing the appeal of gitmo detainees. This should be interesting, the main question, as I'm sure many of you know, is if gitmo counts as being under US ct. Jurisdiction. One interesting twist is that one of the briefs protesting the detention was filed by Fred Korematsu, that's right people, the same Korematsu from Korematsu v. US, the case that upheld the Japanese interment during WW II. Justice Rehnquist is coming to W&M this week to speak, I wonder if he'll say anythign about it. I really wish I would have entered my name into the lottery that the law school is having for students to have lunch with him so that I could ask him some questions about it, oh well.

Ace Troubleshooter:
So I pulled out some old Ace stuff while studying and forgot how much they rock (well, for a pop-punk band anyways). Good times

Whoever came up with the idea of law journals and cite checks should be summarily executed....that is all, you may now resume your lives.

Church

Nigeria clerics condemn gay bishop: Nigerian Anglican Church officials reacted with dismay on Monday to the consecration of an openly gay bishop in the United States, but stopped short of saying their church would break away over the issue. - this is slightly old news, but I thought I'd comment on it. It was a bad move for the Episcopal church to do what they did in electing the bishop, they really put the worldwide church in a bad position. The church in many parts of the world (Africa for example) is in a very awkward position, they already face opposition from competing ideologies who will look at this and use it as ammunition in their accusations about the immorality of Christianity (Islam, I'm looking in your direction...). I don't think the Nigerian church really had any other choice.

Sudan

U.S. Shuts Sudan Embassy: apparently due to word of terrorist threat. This isn't so surprising being that Sudan is a supporter of terrorism (and yet fights it at the same time, alas, thus is the enigma of Realpolitik sometimes)

Favorite Quote from the story: "While concerns remain regarding Sudanese Government support for certain terrorist groups, such as Hamas and the Palestine Islamic Jihad, the United States is pleased with Sudan's cooperation and the progress being made in their antiterrorist activities, the department's 2002 report on global terrorism reads.

Stuff

Well, I went to the XA retreat this weekend, and it was AWESOME. Being able to hang out with everyone, and talk, have fun, and build each other up was great, it was just what I needed to recharge (spiritually that is, physically I'm a little tired) Anyways, I learned a lot about the nature of God and worship and how we really need to worship more as a community. Often times, we like to put worship into a box, and I understand why we like order, etc..., but sometimes we need to look at what we are doing and why we are doing it. I was having a conversation w/my roommate today about this, we think about our walk with God in terms of inreach, upreach and outreach, but these are not muterually exclusive. Upreach is a part of outreach, outreach is a part of inreach, etc... What it is all about really is love, our love for God and for others. We really need to keep this in mind. It makes me happy to see others happy and to see them worshiping God, the same is true with serving other people. Fellowship should be worship, work should be worship, school should be worship, how you may ask can one do this? Well, it is all about the heart with which you do things. God has been teaching me a lot of things recently, about myself and about this life, and one central thing is that i need to keep my focus on him, and by this I don't mean just spending more quiet time, but rather that I should be focused upward when I am working outward and inward, that it all goes together. Although as humans we need to try to simplify our relationships and lives, when we do this sometimes we miss out on the big picture. Our life should be a testimony, all parts of it. I hope that I can remember this more.

Ok, time for bed...

update

Update: You may ask, Josh, why don't all your pages have the same template with the logo and all? And the answer is, I'm too lazy to fix it. You see...the main page and the music review sites are updated via blogger, hence I can change the template for one page, and copy and paste it to all the other blogger controlled pages. For all the other pages (links/etc..) I have to open the template and go in and change the code manually (the only upshot is that doing it this way has taught me a little bit of coding skills, although it's still very little). I know that it doesn't seem like that big of a deal (and it really isn't) but it means I'd have to go change the pages and upload them via FTP which would probably take a whole 2-3 minutes...what can I say, I've been spoiled by blogger.

War

The war in Iraq:
I thought I'd take a couple of minutes out from studying to make a few comments on the war in Iraq. I realize that people die every day there, and many cannot see why however I strongly believe that once we started this thing, we are obligated to finish it. If we really pulled out now, can you imagine the chaos that would ensue over there? A government much worse than Saddam Hussein could fill the power vacuum. If we left now, all those Iraqis and Americans who died would have died in vain. This is NOT Vietnam...most people over there truly support us. Think about it, although it is tragic how people die every day over there, if the resistance was as fierce as some would have us believe, then 100's of soldiers would be dying every day, the fact is, this just is not happening. In fact, according to a Gallup poll, 62% of Baghdad residents believe that the war was worth any personal hardships they have suffered from it. Most of the Iraqis support our mission and if we can pull it off, we may end up with a democratic ally in a very strategically important part of the world. Whatever you felt about our going into the war, we must finish what we started, or I guarantee we will live to regret it.

Ok, enough venting, back to studying evidence....

"Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, 'Where have I gone wrong?' Then a voice says to me, 'This is going to take more than one night.'."
Charlie Brown.

nags head

man...this is a little annoying, but after talkin it over w/the roommates, I think it'd be a good idea for me not to go away for next weekend but instead to work on my outlines for finals.....I haven't made a final decision yet but I'm heavily leaning towards staying

frustration

Man! this is really frustrating, I keep trying to go to online articles that are linked to in order to find out some news on Pakistan, but the problem is that a lot of them are on the Al Jazeera Webpage which is constantly down.....stupid hackers, gr......

update

I don't know why I'm wasting time posting here instead of working, but I can't ever seem to get enough done...I need more time. Things are looking worse and worse in terms of being able to go down to Nags Head next weekend, I may just have to stay here and work on my paper/course outlines...we'll see what happens.......

post

"A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God; or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to."
C.S. Lewis, British author (1898-1963)

How true...if people really looked at Jesus and his message, they would be forced to make a choice. You either accept him or reject him, there is no middle ground. People who do not are afraid to make that choice and what it will mean for their life....they are blinded to reality in order to keep them comfortable in their existence and keep from having to come to terms with what Jesus really was and what he said....

update

update:
Well, I'm updating because I haven't done so in a while. Yesterday was halloween, and it was a pretty good day. I went to a party last night that was fun and it was cool having some time to hang out and whatnot. The only downside is that I ended up sleeping until like 1:00 today which pretty much wasted a good part of my day, but I guess it was worth it.
